Messinian Gem: Tsolis Estate, “Ftelia” 2005

This wine comes from Fteliasouthwest Peloponissos, Trifillia region.

Mr Tsolis started his winery back in 1993 as he wanted to produce wine from Cabernet vines planted during the decade of 1980. Although the wines were well respected, a further boost came out when Filippos Koukis invested as a co-owner

Cabernet is the most planted grape from the 20he vineyards, giving a wine after one year in barrels, and two more in bottle, under supervision of oenologist Mrs Theodora Kavatha.

Bottled unfiltered. Dark (almost black) color. Very concentrated and complex nose, reminiscent of new world wines, but in a more elegant way. Black cherries, ink, pepper, leather, herbal notes (typical for the region, with mostly eucalyptus) and some oak. Same way in the palate with well integrated tannins, medium acidity, full bodied and a delicious long black fruit aftertaste.

A recommended wine, which paired nice with spicy Lebanese dishes.
